Introduction to Mutter

Mutter is the window manager for GNOME. It is not invoked directly, but from GNOME Session (on a machine with a hardware accelerated video driver).

This package is known to build and work properly using an LFS-8.1 platform.

gobject-introspection-1.52.1, libcanberra-0.30, and startup-notification-0.12

Recommended (Required to build the Wayland compositor)

libinput-1.8.1, Wayland-1.14.0, wayland-protocols-1.10, and Xorg-Server-1.19.3 (with Xwayland). Additionally, GTK+-3.22.18 needs to be built with Wayland support.

Installation of Mutter

Install Mutter by running the following commands: 

./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-static &&
make

This package does not come with a test suite.

Now, as the root user: 

make install

Command Explanations

--disable-static: This switch prevents installation of static versions of the libraries.

Installed Libraries: libmutter.so
Installed Directories: /usr/{lib,include}/mutter

Short Descriptions

mutter

is a Clutter based compositing GTK+ Window Manager.

libmutter.so

contains the Mutter API functions.
